Chapter 69: Down and Derby, with a Kiss
Hi y'all! Genuinely going to try and keep this email as simple as I can. I know last weeks was a doozy, sooooo tryna swing back from that haha.
Monday and Tuesday were busy. Sister Abernathy had some members from Savannah come and spend the day with us. They're so kind!
•the Bostocks!!
And Tuesday we had another roadshow! This time there were changes to DCM. Im literally sososososo excited for these changes! And while I did enjoy them, DCM was honestly a bit stale. One of the biggest changes is no more long roleplay where we do a mock lesson! Instead everything is very much centered and pulled from Preach My Gospel. Y'all I have such a strong testimony if PMG. Wednesday was DCM, it was so good! We got to see some of the changes in action. It was so refreshing! That night we went on exchanges with Simpsonville! I got to go to Simp with Sister Hess!! It was so fun going on an exchange with her again!!
Here's a funny story for ya. On Thursday, Sister Hess and I both got a fatty kiss! Literally on our first contact of the day. We pull up to one of their friends houses, the girl wasn't home, but her mom and brother were. She lets us inside, she's a very sweet lady, I think they're from Egypt? Anyways, she lets us in, and right before we sat down, her son who has Downs syndrome came into the room. He was super excited to see us! He like bowed to us like he was asking us to dance, gave me a biiiig tight hug, then planted a fatty kiss on like the side of my head haha. Then did the same for Sister Hess. It was genuinely super sweet, and suuuuper funny. Can check getting kissed on my mission off the bucket list, lol. (Not that it was there before).
Friday we had the wards "pie" wood derby contest! Sister Abernathy and I made cars! Brother Barlow helped us cut our blocks and then we painted them. We did so good!! Our cars were epic. Sis Abes almost got 2nd place!!
Saturday we went on a blitz with the Hermanas. That was exciting! It was a last minute thing, we had a call-in with them they day before and they were skruggling a bit so we planned for them to spend the day in our area with us. So Hermana Anderson and I spent the day together. And we found two people!!! It was a MIRACLE! We haven't really found anyone this whole transfer, but this was so refreshing! We were trying to visit with a media referral we received. Our maps took us to the correct apartment complex but to the wrong building. We got out of the car and asked these two guys sitting outside if they could help us find the right building. They pointed us in the right direction and we asked to share a message about Jesus Christ right there with them. They were more than happy to talk with us and we read out of the Book of Mormon with them!
One of the questions we asked them was who Jesus Christ was to them, and their answer was "He is the reflection of who we truly are." I have never heard that answer before! It's so cool! I whipped out Alma 5:19 and we talked abt having the image of Christ engraven in our countenances. And I've just been thinking about that the past few days. Christ reflects who we truly are. We're all born with Christlike Attributes, and this life is an opportunity for us to grow those attributes and to evolve them. To let them shape us into who God sees us as. Because we are far more than who we see ourselves as. And that's my challenge for you this week. Look at yourself the way God sees you, the way your Savior sees you. Allow His Grace to strengthen and grow those attributes you have. I've been able to feel my relationship with my Savior grow and become more and more tangible every day as I've focused on engraving His image in my countenance. And I know you will too.
Always remember, God loves you, Jesus loves you, and I love you!
